Waterfall...

The painting above is a waterfall not far from home. This is a 24×12″ painting that I did right at the end of the summer as the leaves were just getting ready to start changing. This little waterfall is a hidden gem that my friend Doug introduced me to. It’s the first stop on a hike through some beautiful woods.

Today Doug and I were having lunch in Camden and talking about some artists we really like, and we were both singing the praises of a local photographer, Cig Harvey. She has some absolutely beautiful photos that you should go check out. On top of her fine art work, she has also been doing the cover photo for Maine Magazine for about a year now.

One last recommendation; read this article, written by my friend Jess Stammen. She is a good friend, a great painter, and apparently on her way to becoming a surfer.

Namibia Rocks...

This is the last watercolor that I painted on vacation in Namibia. Since I’ve been home I’ve been playing around with the watercolors in my free time, still trying to figure them out. It’s really frustrating, but also fun. Yesterday I found my Sargent book, which I had to look all over the house to find, and got some ideas from looking at what he was able to do. After looking at his work I’m excited to keep trying, but super intimidated. I painted Elizabeth while she napped, and it came out ok, but I still feel like I can do much better and I’m enjoying the challenge.

Also, if you get the chance, try to stop by the Boothbay Botanical Gardens to see my show there. It will be hanging until Dec 19th.

On the Water...

One of my favorite painters, Connie Hayes, was interviewed by curator Britta Konau. She gave some really insightful answers to questions that realist painters have to wrestle with. The interview is very worthwhile, so if you get a chance I recommend you read it at freepressonline.

The 14×18″ painting above is from a painting trip to Provincetown, MA with a bunch of friends. We will be having a show of the paintings from this trip in February at the Addison Art Gallery in Orleans, MA.
