Even though I am now in Hawaii at the Maui Plein Air Painting Invitational, I thought it would be fun to post a few more of my new winter paintings from Maine. I often enjoy painting backlit scenes, and as I was putting this composition together I liked the way the tree trunks came down into the picture and turned into shadows.
“It is always my wish that you might find enough patience within yourself to endure, and enough innocence to have faith. It is my wish that you might gain more trust in whatever is difficult for you, in your aloneness, among other things. Allow life to happen to you. Believe me, life is right in all cases.” -Ranier Maria Rilke

Absolutely lovely interplay of light and shadows. I also love the variety of colors in the blue lengthy shadows and the yellow highlights in the thin twiggy branches. Nice piece, Colin.
I’ve liked all three of these shadow plays, but this one stands out. Stunning abstraction!
Soak up as much aloha as you can. I tried not to take it all. Sort of…
Beautiful quote Colin! I can understand that books of quotes can equally inspire you. And delightful painting as always
Thanks everyone. I have a lot of fun with the subtlety of colors in the stark light and shadow of these snow scenes. And Nadine, there are some great quotes and writings out there that can inspire as much as another painter’s images. I really enjoy stumbling on a particularly good piece of writing.
