Red Orchid...

I have two orchids in the house, and I love the shape of the plant, the stem, and the flowers. They also look great in different kinds of light. I am not painting many still lifes these days, but they are still a fun project on a rainy day.

So, I am posting a new poll question: Do you find better results when you wait for inspiration to make art, or do you prefer to work regardless of inspiration and see if you can make something of it? Sorry for the delay in posting it simultaneously with this blog post. I look forward to seeing your answers.

Your new poll isn’t up yet, so besides saying that I like how you composed the orchid plant to fill the canvas so nicely, I’ll say that, while I consider inspiration to be a blessing, life’s too short to not just keep painting!

  2. If I wait until I’m inspired to paint-I won’t paint as much as I should. Keeping my blog makes me move forward. If the painting isn’t a success I won’t post it, probably I’ll wipe it but I always feel better for having painted.

Another beautiful painting, Colin. I shared your link today with my students here in Naples.

  3. I think every parent of young children will agree that waiting for inspiration is a luxury of former days…and good things come from forging ahead when feeling reluctant. Lovely painting Colin.

Beautiful–love the floating look of the blossoms.

  5. Beautiful–love how loose the composition is.
