I may not quite have the gardens of Monet, but I do like working on my own perennial gardens. One of the benefits is having a good painting subject close by. This is my third spring in this house, and I have been making some changes each year to make it my own. This is the first spring where the garden is starting to feel like my own.
Today I was working in the studio, hiding from intermittent rain. After a few hours of productive work, I could feel the risk of bad painting close at hand. I don’t know if i was getting tired, or frustrated, or what, but I was doing some stupid things to my paintings, so I decided to just get outside, do some yard work, and get a change of scenery. The garden looks better for it, and I think my paintings may also be better off for it.

LOVE!
“…I could feel the risk of bad painting close at hand.”
Love that. Put the brushes down, back away from the easel…
Such a wide variety of greens in this painting, Colin, really nice.
Not an easy one to pull off with so much green, but you did it well! Love it!
Colin, I like the combination of depiction and expression in this one.
Thanks so much everyone. I am particularly pleased with this one too.
I like the abstract quality and dash of colors Colin.
literally took my breath away!
