Sunset Behind Ragged Mountain...

At 60×72,” this is the largest painting that will be in my show at Dowling Walsh Gallery in August.  This view of Ragged Mountain is what I see every evening in the summer as I head home after a day of painting. It consistently takes my breath away, and I have stopped to do tons of quick sketches of this scene. The summer air is warm and thick with atmosphere. The glare on the water sparkles and robs the water’s edge of any detail. The shadow side of the mountain is rich with blues and purples. I just love this view and wanted to share the moment of coming around a bend in the road and stumbling onto a scene like this.

I am posting a new poll question. I want to know if photography is an important part of your art making/creativity. The last poll question was a bit of a goof about vampires and dragons. Dragons got 42 votes and vampires got 7. So I guess despite all of the vampire movies and tv shows, dragons are still the real winners. At least on this website.

  1. I love these big beautiful paintings! Could you post a detail sometime? I would love to see your brush work up close. It feels freer than the smaller paintings.

That must be Hosmer Pond. I can’t wait to see these big paintings in person; they look fabulous on the screen!

    I agree with Kate.
    More detail, please.
There’s treasure in them thar hills!

I love this painting. It must be stunning to see in real life. I’m another person who would love to see a detail to get a better sense of the brushwork.
