Boat Shed...

I’ve been working away on some studio projects. It’s fun to get into some of these paintings from photos and sketches this past summer. It’s a reminder of some of the great spots around here, and some fun places I have visited. This was painted at a boat shed on North Haven, where I taught a workshop last August. North Haven is a quiet island in Penobscot Bay, with some really great subject matter. I had very  limited painting time myself during the class, but I got some small sketches and photos.

I have also done a bit of plein air work lately too, and it’s been nice to have the balance of the two approaches. The speed and gesture of painting in the fast light and cold of the winter keeps me loose. I’ll post some of the newer plein air paintings soon.

Really fine is this Colin, you found order in a room of clutter and stuff.

Thanks Dave. It’s a challenge to simplify a scene and just look for the bigger areas of value and color… not get lost in the detail. Glad you like it.

Really nice notes of color, Colin…

  4. This is fantastic. I would be totally intimidated by the clutter. Beautiful feel for color, edges.

  5. WHAT?
This is where I want to go with my work.
You can see what it is, but you could turn this any which way and still see a great painting.
You waste no motion and it shows.
