I have a few favorite painting locations in Maine, and I even have some favorite boats and trucks at those locations. This boat happpens to be my favorite lobster boat to paint, hands down. I do like the color of the hull pretty well, but what really sells me on it is the shape. The top of the hull swoops down and back up again as it moves from bow to stern. The cabin has just enough opening to see through to the windshield in the front of the boat. And it also has a great orange life ring hanging on the back that adds a nice accent of warm color. And when it’s backlit, as it is in this painting, the highlights land beautifully on the flat surfaces.

Well, just look at ‘er! Mighty fine, all pert and sparkly like that.
Ayup.
Awesome Coling. Love boats, and trying to capture that luminous shadow is a favorite of mine too. Really like your work!!
