Hi Simon,

My success rate changes quite a bit. I go through days of making paintings that are all disappointing, but I also have runs where I feel like everything I touch works out. I would guess that throughout a year, I am fairly happy with more than half the plein air paintings I do outside. Maybe two-thirds are keepers? Hard to say. But even within that, there is a much smaller amount that I end up falling in love with. I know this is a vague answer, but it's a tough question. There are also times of year when I want to just try something new with my work, so I'll go out and make alot of bad paintings, not expecting to be successful, but trying to figure out some problem.

Thanks for getting in touch.

Thanks for posting this, it's a nice painting. Good use of compliments and delicious brush work. What would you say the ratio of successful outdoor paintings was for you?
