I just returned from a trip to Door County, Wisconsin, where I participated in a plein air painting festival. It was a great week, which I’ll go into more in a later post, but for now I just wanted to get some of my images posted here. These are all paintings I did while out on this trip. At the reception Friday night I won first place in the “People’s Choice Award,” which was a huge honor. I really enjoyed getting to know so may great painters and seeing so much great art created. But I’ll get into all of that in another post. For now I’m running around trying to get things back in order back at home.
And sorry for the image quality in some of these. I didn’t have ideal conditions to photograph alot of these, but I wanted to share some of these paintings anyway.

All right. The peoples choice. You didn’t pass out lobster rolls did ya.
love the gas station painting. now that was a gutsy choice for a competition but you pulled it off!
These are really beautiful. I’ve been enjoying your journal for a while and look forward to each new post. Great work. Thank you.
I was wondering what size canvas you used for this series and how long it took for you to complete one.
Great work. I really enjoy your style. It is very different. I am anxious to see which one won the people’s choice award. I have one picked out that I think it could have been. I really like being able to paint in competitions because it fuels both the creative side and the competitive side. But to do it for a full week must be tiring. I would love to try it someday.
Thanks for sharing your work with us.

Congrats Colin! well deserved..
Wow!! Who knew as I stood watching you paint that Marathon garage that everyone would love it as much as I did?!
Congratulations Colin and I can’t wait to hear which one won! I’m so excited for you!!
Your work is great! I’ve been checking in since I first saw your work in Rockland 9/08. Very nice!
Wonderful, Colin (both the paintings and the award)! Can’t wait to hear which one got the award.
Hey everyone,
To answer a few of your questions, the award was given to an artist, not to a particular painting. Everyone just voted on their favorite artists, so it wasn’t picking out any one painting for the honor. And all of the paintings I did that week were on 11×14″ oil primed linen panels. They took varying amounts of time. I was trying for 2 a day.
Thanks so much for checking in to the journal.
WOW! I mean, WOW!
I don’t know what else to say, Colin, except that you deserve the awards and that you are a fantastic painter.
I just alerted my Chicago friends about your paintings in Door County (& your website), being that they used to have a 2nd home there. Wonderful work, as always, Colin.
