Communication...

pasture-12x16-small

This is a cow pasture not far from my house. I’ve painted this field, and some buildings nearby, several times. The day I painted this, it was the soft greens and the morning light that interested me.

There are quite a few blogs I like to follow. Some are interesting because of the visual content, while others are interesting because of the writing or thoughts. Two blogs I like to keep an eye on are:

http://www.twocoatsofpaint.com/

http://www.dailygusto.com/

The latter has a recent post that I like quite a bit titled, “words.” Below are two quotes from the blog. They both deal with how and why we communicate. I think the first quote works really well for any creative endeavor… at least it certainly holds true for me and why I paint; in order to make myself look more carefully.

“I write in order to understand, but also in order to make myself look harder.”

“They are under the illusion that talking effects great results. As a matter of fact, words are, as a rule, the shallowest portion of all the argument. They but dimly represent the great surging feelings and desires which lie behind. When the distraction of the tongue is removed, the heart listens.”

Check out those blogs and if you enjoy them check out the blogs they link to. There is a lot of interesting, creative work going on out there.

  1. Terrific quotes… I’ll check out the blogs too.. Thanks for the tips.

Isn’t it wonderful to be able to go out near your home and see the beauty and try to capture a bit of it? It’s never the same twice.

    Enjoy!

  2. Funny about that quote.
Often when I’m trying to say how I feel about someone’s painting, words fail me. I blather on, but there’s something else, un-namable, that I’m trying to say.
Blogging has opened a whole new world for me.

Hey Colin — What’s the fall line-up look like?

The fall line up is a lot of traveling for me. I just got back from Mexico, and have a few other trips lined up. I will be giving a few pieces to galleries for group/holiday shows before the new year, adn then things don’t get going for me again till next year. In Feb, I’m participating in a plein air event in HI, then I start painting my butt off as it warms up towards spring.
