So I’ve been busy with some interesting shows lately. I drove some paintings up to teh Courthouse Gallery in Ellsworth, ME for a group show that Bruce Brown curated. I was able to sneak a peak at some of the other pieces and I was impressed. I think that’ll be a good show. It opens Sunday June 29th.
The other big event that I participated in was a fundraiser for the Farnsworth Museum of Art. It was this past week, and was also a group show. The idea behind the show (which I love) is that 12 local established artists will each show one piece, and they’ll each ask an emerging artist to show a piece with them. So one of my favorite local painters, Connie Hayes, asked if I would want to show a piece with her at this event, and I happily agreed. I was fired up just to be a part of this show, but I was also psyched to see how well everything was presented. The show was put together beautifully, and the whole event was a blast. It was spread out over three venues with live music, and great food, wine and beer. If any of you are interested in seeing her work, Connie has a nice website, www.conniehayes.com and will also have a solo show at New Era Gallery in Vinalhaven which opens June 28th. I strongly recommend checking out her work.
I’ve also just updated the Available Paintings on this site, so go check them out, and this Wednesday is teh opening of my solo show at Dowling Walsh Gallery in Rockland. I hope you all come and check it out.
Below is a painting I did on a recent afternoon. I’ve really enjoyed staring at it the past few days. It seems like there’s no strong compostition, but I love the way it comes together despite that. I’ve been looking at scenes lately that are full of color and shapes and don’t seem to organize at all, and I’ve been wanting to paint them anyway, thinking of them as a sort of tapestry of color. Anyway, I’m enjoying this idea and taking a few risks with some crazy compositions, and so far I’m liking the results.
