Owls Head Marina. I don’t remember the size but I would guess about 16 X 32” This is a painting from last fall I think.
Tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, I’ll be heading down to Port Clyde to spend some time with a group of painters who are all coming to the area to paint. There are going to be 12 of us staying at a house down there, all of us painters. I only know a few of them, but I’m really looking forward to getting to know the others. Most of them have websites where I’ve seen their work and it’s good stuff. I’m psyched to get to know them and their work, and see if I can pick up some new approaches for my own work. Some of these guys are coming from Cape Cod, or Boston, and a bunch are coming in from California. The furthest away is Frank Gardner, who’s traveling from Mexico. And I’m the closest, less than an hour’s drive away. This area is actually a pretty common place for me to go and paint in the spring. It’s a quiet penninsula with some beautiful views and working harbors. It’s also the nearest spot to where I live, that I can catch the ferry to Monhegan Island.
It’ll be interesting painting with all of these people. I’m a little nervous about how I’ll do. It’s always weird having people around who see a painting go through all of it’s stages. The nice, clean start when everything is getting laid out, through the rough patches when it feels like nothing works, and then once it’s been wresteld into submission and starts looking good again. It takes a certain amount of focus and guts to pull through the rough patches, and that can be tough when others are around seeing those stages. Although, I was nervous about this with doing demos for a workshop, and those were not too bad at all. So we’ll see how it goes.
A list of the artists is below.

If you want to see their work, go to Frank Gardner’s blog and he has linked to everyone’s site. I’m sorry to say I’m not quite that ambitious.
